How to affiliate with the World Shōtōkan Budōkai
-
The World Shōtōkan Budōkai (WSB) and its affiliates are dedicated to serving our communities and its citizens by nurturing the life-long empowerment of people to constantly improve their state of health and well-being, mental and physical fitness, self-confidence, and sense of self-worth, with a commitment to personal dignity and respect for life through the practice of traditional karate.
-
Any Shotokan karate martial arts association or individual dojo may apply for affiliation with the WSB.
-
First-year affiliation is probationary. WSB reserves the right not to renew the affiliation further.
-
For following years, the affiliation may renewed annually, 3 years, 5 years, or Lifetime. Fees must be paid in October (for the upcoming year).
-
Existing affiliates must apply for new affiliation or renewal online on the WSB website (Affiliation Application Form). Payment must be made and a new Terms of Responsibility Acceptance Form (TORs) signed.
-
New affiliates must apply for affiliation online on the WSB website and submit their karate CV, passport-type photo, and copies of their dan prior grading certificates (Affiliation Application Form). The Affiliation will be subject to approval by members of the Executive board.
-
Failure to renew/pay the affiliation fee will result in the termination of the country affiliation. New applicants from the country could then be considered, without consultation with the lapsed affiliate..
-
WSB reserves the right to terminate any membership in case of a serious breach of WSB's constitution, competition rules, and other regulations as determined by the Disciplinary Committee.
COUNTRY
-
WSB country affiliation promotes various karate organisations to work together for the common goal of promoting and practicing Budo karate and representing their respective countries in WSB events. Each country has one appointed Chief Instructor, who may be assisted by Assistant Chief Instructor(s). Roles and responsibilities are set in their Terms of Reference (TORs).
-
Existing Country Chief Instructors must renew and sign their TORs annually to maintain their membership.
-
New applicants will only be accepted from countries where there is not an existing Chief Instructor. The applicant’s karate CV and evidence of Dan grade will be required. Each application will be reviewed by WSB Chief Instructor.
-
Existing Assistant Chief Instructors must renew and sign their TORs annually to maintain their membership.
-
New applicants will be considered on recommendation and with agreement from Country Chief Instructors. The applicant’s karate CV and evidence of Dan grade will be required. Each application will be reviewed by the WSB Affiliation Office.
-
INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS – Even if individuals do not belong to any organizations or branches of the WSB, they may apply for membership as an individual entry. Individual members may not hold any events such as tournaments, camps or examinations by themselves.
